blog anyone?

Sat Aug 8, 2009, 5:05 AM
last friday around 2pm I gave up on working and started reading Tom Bodette's blog ([link]). It started me thinking about blogging in general.

I have accounts on facebook, livejournal, myspace and here on deviantart. All of these websites have options for "blogs", "journals", or "notes" that equate to basically the same thing. But I have never regularly done anything with them. Though I have found reading many other blogs is that a lot of people have things to say but no one is there to listen. It follows my personal theory in architecture, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

My sister has a "journal" on trailjournals.com where she writes as she hikes. Other hikers who are off the trail read and dream of their own hikes. There is an audience. It has a purpose.

A high school friend complains on livejournal. constantly. This is what I find in so many blogs. people complaining. Everyone is supposed to care? I do fall into this category frequently *cough* last journal *cough*.

Then there are the other people who tell you in detail every aspect of their life. The super market was out of the brand of milk that they wanted, so they had to go to another store that they don't usually go to and the fish guy was an old friend. . . blink blink

When I was project manager for the Uganda Community School Project I was asked to start a blog. So I could post my work and ramble on about the theory and spirit behind the designs. At the same time the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture (Taliesin) was working on a design build modular design project, which had its own blog. The bloggers were terribly attentive and I didn't exactly see a purpose to it. So I never got around to starting my blog for UCSPI. Who would read it? Why would they read it?

Though I wonder, what would happen if I wrote something everyday. I don't think I could keep it up, frequently forgetting to post something. Or what I frequently do; write something and then delete it before posting. Also I have no interest in seeing a screen after I get out of work where I work on a computer all day. and who would care? I know I wouldn't. Defeated before I start ;)
